A Celebratory (belated) Six Month Update

Just a quick note to say thank you SO MUCH for following The Sunday Assembly.

You might be reading this because you come to the Assembly, you might be reading this because you’re starting an Assembly, you might just be curious or you might even be reading this because you are being forced to learn about Sunday Assembly, at gunpoint, by a very weird atheist criminal. Whatever the reason, we want to say thanks!

Thanks to you, in the six months since our first Assembly, amazing things have happened:

  • The London Assembly had 605 people come to the June service, in our new 1200 seat home.
  • There are 629 people signed up to this email who want to start their own Assembly where they live.
  • Pilot Assemblies are launching across the UK, in Australia and the US.
  • There’s an Assembly in New York on June 30th (Facebook event).

More important than that. More important than all the gaudy numbers, and the press and hoohah, is the fact that, in London, lives are being changed. That is why we are in this. The entire mission of the Sunday Assembly is “to help everyone find and fulfil their full potential”.

Just last week, I received this email (which I am sharing with the permission of the sender):

“Hey bud

I thoroughly enjoyed our first Sunday Assembly. Actually, that’s a gross understatement.
I’ve been with my wife over 9 years now and I love her to pieces. That being said, we’ve been having a bit of a rough time lately. We have our own individual stresses in life and because we are so close, we take that stress out on each other.
The message behind the assembly on Sunday struck a significant chord with both of us. The last few days have been amazing. We’re actually working together now to help make each other happy and we’ve realised how much we were taking each other for granted. It’s kinda like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders and the difference in atmosphere at home now is really noticeable.
So, yeah. Thank you for that……. The assembly was great and it filled a gap that neither of us realised existed.”

That is fantastic. In one way, it is so small, in another, it is the whole world.

What is truly wonderful is that we are still in the process of setting up in London. We are so new, we are still learning, and already great things are happening.

What makes it super tricky is that we want to do more work in London, but we also have people all over the world who want their own. We are working hard to keep up with both demands, but we’re already doing way more on both fronts that we could ever have imagined at the start of the year.

It is the most exciting and exhilarating mission. Indeed, for us, it is hugely humbling, and an immense honour, to have anything at all to do with this movement.

The next part of this quest takes me (Sanderson) to the US where I will be travelling through LA (June 21-22), San Francisco (23-24), Seattle, (25-26) Chicago (27-28) and New York (29-30). I am hoping to meet supporters, journalists, activists and anyone else who can help this get going Stateside.

Thank you very much for being part of this journey. Let’s all live better, help often and wonder more.
