Many Assemblies around the world are celebrating their Birthdays this month, and Sunday Assembly Los Angeles are treating us to a guest post from one of the leaders of their community, Ian Dodd. Take it away, Ian!
Last November, on the occasion of Sunday Assembly Los Angeles’ 2nd anniversary, one of our community members got up to share a story of Doing Her Best. Terri described a very dark time she had gone through, including thoughts of suicide. And she told about how she used every bit of her emotional reserves to drag herself to her first Sunday Assembly in early 2015. Over the next several months Terri came back and got involved as a SA volunteer, signing up for service projects and hosting social events. By the end, with a shaky voice and tears in her eyes, she concluded her story with “I just want to thank Sunday Assembly and all of you for helping me to save my life.” (You can watch this amazing sharing here, but you better have some tissues at the ready!)
Building this community, locally, nationally and globally has been an amazing experience for all of us. But sometimes, among all the thousands of stories about how Sunday Assemblers “live better, help often, wonder more”, we hear stories like Terri’s, and we realize just how much Sunday Assembly has really made an impact for some people on a very deep level.
On November 13th we are celebrating our 3rd anniversary at Sunday Assembly Los Angeles and we’d like to invite you to the party. As always, we’ll be live streaming our Assembly beginning at 11:00 PST (19:00 GMT) and we’re planning to link in video streams from watch parties and shout-outs from all around the world. If you’d like to be a part of the live experience from afar, point your browser to Tiny.cc/SALAlive. If we can, we’ll say hello from stage in response to your comments!
And if you’re thinking about putting together a watch party wherever you are, or you’d like to record a message for us in advance (maybe from your Assembly?), we’d love to broadcast your greeting live at our Assembly. Email us at sundayassemblyla@gmail.com, and happy birthday to all the Assemblies celebrating this month!
